After the second day’s play, the Australian team is on 273 for 7 at stumps with the hosts in need of only three wickets to wrap up Aussies first innings.
Steven Smith showed that he is in great form as he remained not out on 58 in his first Test since January 2011. He entered at No. 5 after Hughes’ exit for 2. He made 47-run stand with as Ed Cowan (86), then shared 46-run partnership with Brad Haddin (21). He also looked on as Moises Henriques (0) got out. Smith then put on 22 for the eighth wicket stand with Mitchell Starc (20*). Indian bowlers were chasing for Smith’s wicket on Day 2 and will again do the same on the 3rd day.
For the hosts, the most successful bowler on Friday was left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who dismissed David Warner and Michael Clarke in consecutive balls and then added the wicket of Peter Siddle for a duck before stumps. Ishant Sharma also successfully removed Haddin and Henriques in the same over late in the day.
