On the Day 3 of 3rd test match, New Zealand recovered from early collapse in their second innings to reach 35 for 3 till close on Sunday increasing their lead from England to 274 runs after avoiding the follow on. Left-arm local fast bowler Trent Boult collected 6 for 68 as Kiwis dismissed the visitors for 204 in response to their own first innings of 443 with a 239-run lead.
Skipper Brendon McCullum refused to enforce the follow on and decided for his team to play the second innings instead. Afterwards, New Zealand’s top order disintegrated within few initial overs. Hamish Rutherford was out for duck, Kane Williamson for 1 and Ross Taylor for 3 as the hosts slipped to 8 for 3.
First innings century-maker Peter Fulton luckily steadied the innings and remained unbeaten at 14 by stumps, through sharing 27-run stand with Dean Brownlie (13*). After a failing opening order, still Kiwis are in dominant position.
