On Day 3 of BCA Indonesia Open 2014, Wang Yihan’s recent nightmarish streak continued as she crashed out of the second round on Thursday as the Women’s Singles world No.3 from China, was tripped by Thai youngster Nichaon Jindapon with 21-18 18-21 21-13.

Aside from the above, there were several upsets on the day 3, including that of Women’s Singles seventh seed Tai Tzu Ying (Chinese Taipei); recent Yonex Open Japan winners Ayaka Takahashi/Misaki Matsutomo in Women’s Doubles and Men’s Doubles second seeds Mathias Boe/Carsten Mogensen (Denmark).

Thai player Busanan Ongbumrungpan had ambushed recent Yonex Open Japan runner-up Tai Tzu Ying with 21-16 17-21 21-19. Another casualty in Women’s Singles was fifth seed Sung Ji Hyun (Korea) had beaten 21-13 6-21 21-10 by Yu Sun of China.

Also the Chinese players Li Xuerui and Wang Shixian, both won straight games over Adrianti Firdasari (Indonesia) and Carolina Marin (Spain) respectively. Three-time champion Saina Nehwal had easily grabbed a victory against Scot Kirsty Gilmour (21-17 21-9) and will face familiar foe Li in the quarter-finals.

However, the match of the day in Men’s Singles was Thai player Chen Long’s hard-fought victory over Thailand’s Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk with 23-25 21-16 22-20.

Indonesian hero Simon Santoso and also a 2012 champion, was desperately close to a quarter-final place but failed to do that against the Hong Kong player Hu Yun and lost with 21-18 13-21 22-20.

Women’s Doubles saw the upset of fourth seeds Japanese Takahashi/Matsutomo being undone by the Jung Kyung Eun/Kim Ha Na of Korea with 17-21 21-19 21-11.

In Mixed Doubles, Indonesia’s Kevin Sanjaya Sukamuljo and Greysia Polii, who caused a massive upset on Day 2 beating defending champions Zhang Nan and Zhao Yunlei, had seen their campaign also ended, falling before Korea’s Lee Yong Dae/Shin Seung Chan with 21-18 21-17.
