On Day 3 of the opening test match, Sri Lanka managed to avoid an innings defeat as they fought back I the second innings and reached 293 for the loss of 5 wickets at stumps on Sunday.
The visitors were shattered badly when the Kiwi bowlers wrapped the whole team up in their first innings score of 138 while chasing hosts 1st innings score of 441. However, after being enforced follow-on, they recovered nicely from the shock and are now just 10 runs behind New Zealand with still five wickets remaining. By the close of day, skipper Angelo Mathews remained unbeaten at 53 while Tharindu Kaushal was not out at 5.
