Vortex Brake Pads 200J.R. Fitzpatrick won the exciting NASCAR Canadian Tire Series season opening race, the Vortex Brake Pads 200 in front of a huge crowd at Canadian Tire Motorsport Park. It was his third career victory at the famous 3.957 km road course. 

The Cambridge, ON native was followed closely to the line by St. Thomas resident D.J. Kennington who was looking for his second victory on this track. Defending Series champion and pole sitter Scott Steckly took the third spot. 

The Porsche GT3 Cup Challenge Canada by Michelin held its second race of the weekend.  Pro driver Kyle Marcelli, driving unclassified, won again after claiming Saturday’s race. Jean-Frederic Laberge won the Platinum Cup, making him two for two on the weekend. Bruce Gregory was first in Gold Cup and Robert Seitz was best in Silver Cup for the second straight day. 

Sunday’s racing action also saw the Canadian Touring Car Championship complete their weekend doubleheader. Mathieu Audette took the Super Touring over Sasha Anis for the second straight day. Karl Thomson was first in the Touring Class and Nick Wittmer took the victory in B-Spec. 

In the F1000 Championship Series, Brandon Dixon took the top step of the podium by 3.377 over Glenn Cooper. Canadian Jeremy Hill was third. 

The final race of the weekend saw Florida native Doug Peterson win the SCCCA Trans-Am Series season opener over Peterborough driver Ian Patterson.
