The crazy 33 year old Englishmen Andy Charlie has taken the obsession of the Nürburgring to another level.  Andy moved to live near the ring in 2007 where he was enticed by the endless track time for the price of a year pass.  He started off by taking odd jobs around the ring and eventually helping out Performance Bike magazine with their  motorcycle tests.  As it turned out an injured journalist allowed for Charlie to fill in and actually become the laptime-setter wich pushed him to keep going faster.

Andy choose a crash damaged 2005 Yamaha R1 as the weapon of choice to attach the “Ring”.  The bike is still street legal although he shaved off 11KG (24 pounds) off from the R1.  He meticulously shaved weight off every component he could find and even making custom brackets and parts himself just to save weight.  Although he has bolted on a buunch of Carbon parts and replaced the suspension the engine is realtively stock even using the stock air cleaner.  Andy claims the reason it is so fast is he just doesn’t slow down.

Andy also said that he has 1,000′s of laps around the Ring under his belt and don’t expect to learn the Ring overnight.  His advice for the first timers to the ring is to learn the four slow corners to prevent a trip to the hospital.  Andy also states that even with all the laps under his belt he is still learning the track every time he rides it.

Watch as Andy Charlie sets a 7m10s lap around the Nürburgring with traffic.
