Brittany Timko makes 100th appearance for Canada

Canada’s Brittany Timko has made her 100th appearance for Canada’s national team. Timko reached the milestone as part of Canada’s starting XI for the 7 June Women’s International Friendly match against Hungary in Budapest. Timko served as captain for the match.

Timko, 25, is in her 10th season with Canada’s national team. She made her debut back on 9 April 2002 against Japan at the Tournoi international in Limoges, France. She was just 16 years old, at the time the second youngest player to ever play for Canada. Timko becomes the seventh player to reach the milestone for Canada.

Timko’s experience includes participation in two FIFA Women’s World Cups (not counting Germany 2011), one Women’s Olympic Football Tournament, and four CONCACAF women’s championships. She also participated in two FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cups (including silver in 2002) and won one CONCACAF Women’s Under-20 Championship (in Canada in 2004). She won the FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup adidas Golden Shoe at Thailand 2004.

While Timko has spent much of her young career with the national team, she is also a title holder at the club level, having won the 2004 W-League playoff championship with Vancouver Whitecaps FC. As a teenager, she won BC Soccer Youth Athlete of the Year in 2002 and BC Soccer Senior Athlete of the Year in 2003. She was also Sport BC Junior Athlete of the Year in 2003. At the college level, she played four years at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln.
