Vancouver Whitecaps FC announced today that the club have acquired D.C. United’s third-round selection in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft in exchange for striker Long Tan. Whitecaps FC also waived midfielder Floyd Franks earlier today.
“We are thankful for Long and Floyd’s contributions since joining the club,” said Whitecaps FC head coach Martin Rennie. “We wish both players all the best for the future.”
Tan, 24, joined Vancouver at the start of the 2011 season following one year with FC Tampa Bay of the United States Soccer Federation Division-2 Professional League in 2010. The native of Dalian, China, made 17 MLS regular season appearances, including four matches this year, as a member of Whitecaps FC.
Franks, 28, made two MLS regular season appearances as a substitute and one start during this year’s Amway Canadian Championship with Vancouver. The product of Vestavia Hills, Alabama, joined Whitecaps FC earlier this year following two seasons with Carolina RailHawks of the North American Soccer League.
