Canadian Soccer AssociationThe Canadian Soccer Association was informed by FIFA on 8 August that the FIFA Disciplinary Committee’s examination of incidents that allegedly happened following the conclusion of the Canada-USA match at the Women’s Olympic Football Tournament required further investigation. It is not expected that a decision or subsequent disciplinary sanction to any players will be passed until after the close of the tournament.

“The Canadian Soccer Association supports the work of the FIFA Disciplinary Committee and will continue to cooperate fully,” said Victor Montagliani, President of the Canadian Soccer Association. “We will work closely with FIFA to ensure a prompt and fair resolution in this matter.”

The focus can now be placed entirely on Canada’s ever-important bronze-medal match against France, set to be played Thursday 9 August in Coventry. Canada will compete for a spot on the podium and a place in Canadian history, potentially becoming the first Canadian team to win an Olympic medal since 1936.
