Wozniak loses tough three set match to Sloane Stephens
Vasek Pospisil (Vancouver, BC) qualified for the main draw of the BNP Paribas Open of Wednesday, an ATP Masters 1000 event currently underway in Indian Wells,California.
Pospisil won his second straight three set match, defeating Belgium’s Maxime Authom 4-6, 6-4, 6-3 to book his spot in the main draw for the first time in Indian Wells. He will face Nicolas Mahut of France in the opening round Thursday. For his part, Frank Dancevic (Niagara Falls, ON) lost his final round qualifying match 4-6, 7-6(2), 6-4 to American Bobby Reynolds.
On the ladies side, Aleksandra Wozniak (Blainville, QC) lost a tough three set match that lasted over three hours under the lights on Stadium Court, falling 4-6, 7-5, 7-6 to American wildcard recipient Sloane Stephens. Wozniak had played her way through qualifying to set up a first round encounter with Stephens, a match that featured a total of 242 points.
Milos Raonic (Thornhill, ON) is seeded no. 27 in the men’s draw and will benefit from an opening round bye. He will meet the winner of the match between Carlos Berlocq and Benoit Paire in the second round. Raonic reached the third round in Indian Wells last year before falling to Ryan Harrison.
