World No.2 set to return home today

World no. 2 player Maria Sharapova had to withdraw from the Rogers Cup today, because of a very bad stomach virus which has been bothering her since her stay in London.

“It’s disappointing for our fans and for all of us, but it’s part of the game, unfortunately,” said Eugène Lapierre, director of the Rogers
Cup.

“Maria showed exceptional professionalism making the trip to Montreal, coming on site and try to practice, despite the fact she had not been feeling well. We wish Maria a quick recovery and hope fans will see her shine on court soon.”

She will be replaced in the draw by Lucky loser Galina Voskoboeva from Kazhakstan.
