Bouchard and Fichman post convincing wins in singles

The Miele Canadian Fed Cup team won their three matches against Peru on day one of the Fed Cup by BNP Paribas Americas Zone Group I event in Medellin, Colombia.

The first singles match of this round robin tie went to Sharon Fichman (Toronto, ON) who defeated Katherine Miranda 6-2, 6-2; followed by Eugenie Bouchard’s (Westmount, QC) win over Patricia Ku Flores 6-4, 6-3. The doubles match was equally successful for Gabriela Dabrowski (Ottawa, ON) and Fichman winning 6-2, 6-1.

Despite recent heavy rain fall, the Canadian team proved well prepared for the first of three round robin ties in altitude on outdoor clay.

Thursday Canada will compete against Venezuela beginning at 10 a.m. E.T., before concluding the Pool A matches on Friday against the host country, Colombia.

The winner of pool A will face the winner of pool B (featuring Paraguay, Brazil, Chile & Mexico) in the final on Saturday to determine which country will advance to the World Group II play-offs in April 2013.
