The Cathay Ball is a grand evening of spectacular entertainment, elegant dancing, and sumptuous dining. It is home to the popular special draw and a silent auction filled with fine items and collectibles.
Every November, the dazzling gala stands as the pinnacle of Mon Sheong’s fundraising efforts, bringing together over a thousand government officials, business leaders, and prominent members of the community for a splendid celebration. Recent galas include evenings themed after the vibrant cities of Barcelona and Rome, as well as “A Golden Celebration” in commemoration of the Foundation’s 50th anniversary. The ball has raised more than $12.5 million over the years in support of the long-term care centres and other services of the Mon Sheong Foundation.
This year, Mon Sheong is hosting the 25th Cathay Ball. The evening’s theme, “The Peony Masquerade”, fittingly combines the traditional Chinese symbol of honour and prosperity with a western icon of elaborate festivity and celebration. Guests are encouraged to dress in costumes while masquerade masks will be given out to add a hint of intrigue and mystery. Aside from the highly anticipated Mon Sheong Charity Raffle draw, the remarkable program will feature live violin and cello performances, complimentary whisky tasting, and a great mix of classical and contemporary entertainment.
MON SHEONG FOUNDATION
The Mon Sheong Foundation, established in 1964, is Canada’s first registered charity specializing in the Chinese community. It is dedicated to the promotion of Chinese culture, heritage, language, and philosophy and is home to three long-term care centres, an adult day program, three Chinese school campuses, a youth group, two community and volunteer services centres, three senior apartments, and assisted living and private care units.
