The acclaimed Art of Time Ensemble, under the artistic direction of Andrew Burashko, presents Cantabile: An Evening of Italian Music, a special concert featuring the music of Italy from powerful and familiar opera arias by Verdi, Leoncavallo and Puccini to popular songs by Lucio Battisti, Paolo Conte and others. Cantabile: An Evening of Italian Music runs February 10-11 at Harbourfront Centre’s Enwave Theatre.

Acclaimed tenor Michael Ciufo and Juno Award-winning singer Dominic Mancuso are accompanied by a grand ensemble of some of Canada’s finest classical and jazz musicians, conducted by Burashko who also performs at the piano on some of the pieces.

Michael Ciufo performs Opera Arias all in the original key including: Una Furtiva Lagrima by Donizette, De Miei Bollenti Spiriti by Verdi, E La Solita Storia by Cilea and Vesti La Giubba by Leoncavallo.

Dominic Mancuso performs Italian songs: L’ Ultima Canzone by Tosti, Core ‘Ngrato by Cardillo, Musica Proibita by Gastaldon and Occhi Di Fata by Denza.

Michael and Dominc will end the evening in a duet – Miserere by Zucchero.

The musicians are:  Benjamin Bowman – Violin, Rachel Mercer – Cello, John Johnson – Saxophone,   Andrew Downing – Bass, Doug Perry – Viola, Tony Zorzi – Guitar, Veronique Mathieu – Violin, and Davide Di Renzo – Drums.
 
Art of Time Ensemble recently performed I Send You This Cadmium Red for Canadian Stage. The Globe and Mail’s J. Kelly Nestruck hailed the production as “One of the Top 11 of 2011.” Maclean’s Brian D. Johnson declared it “extraordinaryŠ. lush and mesmerizing.” Michael Crabb in The Toronto Star said, “the results are enthralling” and gave it 3.5 stars out of 4, and the Toronto Sun‘s John Coulbourn called that same performance “compellingŠ. an evening of deep passion.”
