El Segundo Playhouse presents To Kill a Mockingbird, based on the Pulitzer Prize-winning Southern drama by Harper Lee. Atticus Finch is a stalwart attorney in the "tired old town" of Maycomb, Alabama in the 1930s, where racial tensions run high. He is appointed to defend a black man who is accused of raping a young white woman and faces overwhelming pressure not to perform his duty to his client. The story is drawn from Harper Lee’s memories of her own childhood in the rural south, so much of the tale derives from the perspective of Atticus’ children, Jem and Scout, who witness the moral and societal issues that plague their town.
