Educating Rita: A Pygmalion-Inspired Modern-Day Comedy

Covina Center for the Performing Arts (Covina, CA)

"Educating Rita"

Covina Center for the Performing Arts presents British playwright Willy Russell’s Educating Rita. University lecturer Dr. Frank Bryant needs to earn some extra cash to pay for his alcohol habit, so he agrees to tutor Rita, a brash, earthy hairdresser who desperately wants to better herself. The result is a delightful Pygmalion-style comedy in which Frank ends up playing Henry Higgins to Rita’s modern-day Eliza Doolittle. Each has a profound effect on the other, opening up new possibilities for each other’s lives. Christopher Diehl directs Melissa Brandzel and John Catanzaro in this two-character play.
