TORONTO (June 17, 2012) Riding a bike its a simple act one that Toronto communities do every weekend in the summer along our many trails. On Sunday June 17th, it will also be an act of solidarity with communities in Africa, where AIDS has already killed more people in the last 20-years than all the continents wars combined leaving more than 10 million orphans behind. All across the continent of Africa, communities are facing the challenge of HIV. When HIV&AIDS affects an individual, entire families can become vulnerable. Everywhere you turn, there are committed community members who are doing their part – giving care and support to people living with AIDS, providing for orphans and spreading awareness. Were riding in solidarity with these local heroes. Were riding to provide them with the resources they need to help their communities overcome AIDS! On June 17th, concerned Torontonians will take to their bikes in support of ten Canadian organizations whose projects are supporting local efforts to educate communities to prevent the spread of HIV, empower vulnerable families and AIDS orphans so that they can earn an income and to combat the stigma of AIDS. CAP/AIDS has been hosting this bike-a-thon event each summer for seven years, raising more than $200,000 for our projects in African communities. This year, we have invited nine like-minded groups to join with us and raise funds for similar efforts across the region by working together we hope to engage even more riders and to maximize the funds we can raise for our common cause! Together we can make a tremendous difference in the lives of orphans, families and communities impacted by HIV&AIDS.
