How Hollywood Works With NASA to Bring Space to the Big Screen
Samuel Goldwyn Theater (Beverly Hills, CA)

The panel presentation Capturing the Final Frontier: NASA Animations and the Movies shows you how science and Hollywood join forces to bring space to the big screen. As they work to blaze paths across the universe, NASA creates and relies upon virtual voyages using cutting-edge film techniques. It’s big science, but it’s also a big-time thrill, and NASA’s animators and image specialists often share their visual concepts with Hollywood filmmakers. Take a look at the agency’s animations of the Mars rover Curiosity in anticipation of its landing on the Red Planet later this summer. You’ll also see clips of the documentary films Hubble 3D (2010) and Roving Mars (2006) along with feature films Mission to Mars (2000) and the Oscar-nominated Transformers: Dark of the Moon (2011).
