Samuel Goldwyn Theater (Beverly Hills, CA)

The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences presents Both Sides of the Camera: The Innovative Genius of Jerry Lewis, a unique look at a lesser-known side of the comedy legend’s career. In addition to being one of the most beloved comic actors in film history, Lewis is also renowned as a technologically innovative film director. Among other pioneering achievements, his 1960 film The Bellboy was the first ever to use a closed-circuit video assist system. In 1967, he taught a graduate filmmaking class at USC, and his lectures were compiled into the influential 1971 book The Total Film-Maker. Join Academy Award-winning visual effects supervisor Craig Barron and Academy Award-winning sound designer Ben Burtt for an onstage conversation with Lewis focusing on his love and mastery of technology, and featuring clips illustrating Lewis’ creative use of audio and visual effects in The Errand Boy, The Nutty Professor, The Patsy and more.
