After starting its life as a novel, then becoming an Academy Award-winning screenplay in 2004, this new varietal of Sideways finds the story has aged quite nicely. Author Rex Pickett hand-crafted this world-premiere play about a pair of middle-aged friends, Miles and Jack, who take off on a week-long adventure to the wine country before Jack makes a journey to the altar. The film, which starred Paul Giamatti and Thomas Haden Church, has racked up literally dozens of awards, and this stage version has won kudos as well, as an L.A. Weekly pick of the week. That publication says, “Pickett’s … winning, funny and wise production is more involvingly intimate then the movie.”
