Encounter: Dance Theater Production Examines Links Between the World’s Cultures
David Henry Hwang Theater (Los Angeles, CA)
This work unearths various kinds of encounters — with the divine, the self, love and the military. The dance theatre production explores imageries from the lives of communities around the world — whether they are native histories or modern day occurrences in Iraq, Afghanistan or Rwanda. Encounter is about an indigenous woman who is inspired by Bengali novelist Mahasweta Devi’s work, and has been adapted for the stage by S M Raju and Aparna Sindhoor.
