Alex Theatre (Glendale, CA)
The Los Angeles Chamber Orchestra opens its 2012-2013 season with a concert featuring both area premieres and classic works by Ravel and Beethoven. The concert opens with Jeffrey Kahane’s smokey jazz-tinged rendition of the Ravel masterwork Piano Concerto in G major. Then he’ll conduct as the symphony presents the West Coast premieres of Andrew Norman’s The Great Swiftness and James Matheson’s True South. Special guest artist Augustin Hadelich will transport you to Theater an der Wien circa 1806, where Beethoven’s now-beloved Violin Concerto in D major was first performed. Afterward, savor the experience by staying for treats and drinks provided by LACO’s sponsors.
