Marriott – LAX (Los Angeles, CA)

L.A. Jazz presents Groovin’ Hard, a five-day jazz festival celebrating the big band renaissance with concerts, rare film screenings, panels and special presentations. This festival celebrates the rebirth of big band music that took place in the mid-1960s with the emergence of musicians like Buddy Rich and Don Ellis, who had a solid foundation in jazz due to the influence of the innovative and influential Stan Kenton. Kenton had one of the best-known West Coast swing ensembles in the 1940s and devoted himself to keeping big band jazz alive through education of the younger generation. Groovin’ Hard gathers together an incredible array of the stars who helped bring about this musical rebirth, including many one-time-only concerts.
