Carpenter Performing Arts Center, CSULB (Long Beach, CA)

Internationally renowned choreographer Bill T. Jones teams with the Carpenter Center and CSULB Department of Dance for the Southern California premiere of his landmark piece, “Reading Mercy and the Artificial Nigger” — a work inspired by a Flannery O’Connor short story — that transcends boundaries as it mixes dance, literature and race. The finest dancers from the CSULB Department of Dance have been selected to perform the work, in an evening that kicks off three premiere works by noted CSULB faculty choreographers: Gerald Casel, Sophie Monat and Andrew Vaca.
