Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
It’s an evening of contrasts at Walt Disney Concert Hall as the L.A. Philharmonic, led by Spanish conductor Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos, performs Beethoven’s light and lively Eighth Symphony with Manuel de Falla’s gritty La vida breve, an operatic tale of a woman wronged. Beethoven’s Eighth is lighthearted, cheerfully loud and full of life, with many of its passages characterized by music lovers as musical jokes. By contrast, Falla’s opera is a tragic tale of passionate, but ill-fated love and dramatic confrontations. The opera is performed by talented opera singers, backed by the L.A. Philharmonic and flamenco artists.
