American Jewish University (Los Angeles, CA)

American Jewish University presents a staged reading of A Radical Friendship, a new play about one of the most important relationships of the civil rights movement: the bond between Martin Luther King, Jr. and Rabbi Abraham Joshua Heschel, a Polish-born rabbi. A thirst for social justice may have brought these two scholars together, but it was a personal bond that cemented their six-year friendship. A Radical Friendship explores the fascinating dynamics of their collaboration, from their first meeting to their iconic march from Montgomery to Selma in 1965. Jason George (Grey’s Anatomy) plays King, while Ed Asner (The Mary Tyler Moore Show) plays Heschel. Don’t miss seeing Asner, winner of seven Emmy Awards and himself a longtime political activist, play a figure of towering intellectual and moral stature who helped change the country forever.
