If you only know Bebe Neuwirth from her Emmy Award-winning turn on Cheers as Dr. Lilith Sternin, you don’t know how profoundly gifted this accomplished singer, dancer and actress really is. Luckily, her talent is on full display in her one-woman cabaret show, Stories With Piano, now coming to the Valley Performing Arts Center. Be warned: This is not a nostalgia act filled with long-winded anecdotes. Although a veteran of several Broadway blockbusters, including A Chorus Line, Sweet Charity and Chicago, Neuwirth, a two-time Tony winner, is still at the top of her game. In fact, the “stories” of Stories With Piano are not stories at all, but the songs themselves. Accompanied by pianist Scott Cady, Neuwirth will create characters out of the complex lyrics and glorious melodies of artists like Stephen Sondheim, Kurt Weill, Kander and Ebb and many others.
