Actors Co-op Theatres (Hollywood, CA)

The power and lyricism of Pulitzer Prize-winning playwright Lorraine Hansberry’s own words come to life on stage in To Be Young, Gifted and Black. Hansberry, who most famously wrote A Raisin in the Sun, is the subject of this biographical drama that features selections from her plays, diaries, lectures and letters to tell its transformative story of grace, humanity and strength of spirit. Gifted was adapted by Hansberry’s ex-husband, Robert Nemiroff, who won a 1974 Tony Award for the musical Raisin, which was based on A Raisin in the Sun.
