Santa Monica Playhouse (Santa Monica, CA)

Sloan Robinson (The Dorothy Dandridge Story) performs a one-woman tribute to acclaimed actress, singer and dancer Josephine Baker. Bananas!: A Day in the Life of Josephine Baker is a tour-de-force through the life of the first African-American woman to star in a major motion picture. The toast of Paris during the ’20s and ’30s, Baker was one of the most popular entertainers and personalities of her day. She electrified audiences with her mix of erotic joy and dazzling talent. Baker won the French military honor, the Croix de guerre, for her work with the French Resistance during World War II, and later became a powerful figure in the American Civil Rights movement. In honor of Black History Month, the Santa Monica Playhouse will stage a limited run of this entertaining and important show.
