The Alexandria (Los Angeles, CA)

There’s a black First Lady living in the White House, and a black woman tops the chart as the richest woman in entertainment. The world is changing fast, but that gives rise to more questions. Where do black women fit into the changing culture of gender and race? Black Women: State Of the Union returns to Company of Angels’ black box performance space in the historic Alexandria Hotel in downtown Los Angeles. This edgy and emotionally-charged exploration of the challenges and achievements of black women in contemporary America received critical and audience acclaim in 2012 at the Skylight Theater, and now returns to Company of Angels to celebrate Black History Month. It’s an ensemble work of dialog and video, insight and comedy that examines the many issues facing black women today.
