Royce Hall at UCLA (Los Angeles, CA)

Canonized by Rolling Stone as one of the “100 Greatest Guitarists of All Time,” Robert Randolph is also one of the most popular pedal steel guitar players ever, having broken into the mainstream by touring with Eric Clapton and appearing on the Late Show with David Letterman. Now Randolph returns to the roots of his music — the “Sacred Steel” tradition of the Pentecostal Church — and presents The Slide Brothers, his own musical mentors and true progenitors of the form. An assembly of some of the finest pedal steel guitarists alive today, The Slide Brothers include Aubrey Ghent, Chuck and Darick Campbell and Calvin Cooke, the master musician called the “B.B. King of the Gospel Steel Guitar.” Opening the concert is Otis Taylor, the musician whom readers of Living Blues once ranked alongside Etta James as the “Best Blues Entertainer.”
