Walt Disney Concert Hall (Los Angeles, CA)
Los Angeles Philharmonic Association puts the spotlight on great female musicians as Finnish conductor Susanna Mälkki and gifted violinist Leila Josefowicz join the L.A. Phil at Walt Disney Concert Hall. Finnish conductor Mälkki leads the orchestra in new music by Enno Poppe, a sensation on Europe’s festival circuit. Then Josefowicz joins in to play Stravinsky’s Violin Concerto. Composed in 1931, the concerto has such a powerful kinetic energy that George Balanchine choreographed two ballets to it. The evening concludes with a beloved symphony by Brahms, his austerely noble Fourth.
