Theatre Raymond Kabbaz, Le Lycee Francais de Los Angeles (Los Angeles, CA)
Theatre Raymond Kabbaz’s intimate setting makes it the perfect venue for quirky theater. Three Pieces en 1 acte by Jean-Luc Lagarce, one of France’s most popular and prolific playwrights, is performed in French with no subtitles. The Servants (Les serviteurs) (1981) centers around a group of servants in the kitchen talking endlessly about the Mr. and Mrs. upstairs, who may have disappeared. Error-building (Erreur de construction) (1977) is one of Jean-Luc Lagarce’s first works. It’s absurd and funny, and explores whether the simplest mechanisms of language, endlessly repeated, can become the essence of a play. In The Ducatel’s maid (La bonne de chez Ducatel) (1977), Pauline, the maid, is cleaning while Mrs. Ducatel is murdering her husband.
