**VERY FIRST SCREENING OF DETROIT THREAT MANAGEMENT IN TORONTO** Come on down to DDL for probably your only chance ever to see Detroit Threat Management a fascinating film by Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman about a Detroit-based private paramilitary. Director in attendance! 7:30pm Start Time About the film: The stated mission of the VIPERS is to protect Detroit citizens from predators. They do this through pro-bono community service, paid bodyguard work, and self-defense classes. “Detroit Threat Management” is the chronicle of this urban paramilitary, the people who join it, the man who leads them, and the city from which they have sprouted to fill a disturbing gap in public service. Filmmaker Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman spent over two years embedded with the VIPERS and their ambitious leader, Commander Brown, gathering moments both macabre and tender. About the director: Jacob Hurwitz-Goodman is a director of documentary films, narrative films, music videos and animated shorts. A native of Detroit, Jacob was working as a videographer in Ghana in 2011 when he received the Edes Award for Emerging Artists through the University of Chicago. This film (as well as several 3D music videos, short documentaries, and a webseries on obscure musical subcultures in the US) is a result of that fellowship.
