The Huntington Library (San Marino, CA)

Southwest Chamber Music presents it’s summertime festival on the gorgeous grounds of The Huntington Library. This year marks the festival’s 20th anniversary season, so it’s fitting that the opening concert features bubbly champagne music. Stravinsky’s Octet for Winds and Mozart’s Serenade, Gran Partita, are a perfect pairing of 18th century classicism with 20th-century Parisian neo-classicism. Complete with blue balloons, Oliver Knussen’s perfect music for A.A. Milne’s beloved Winnie the Pooh will feature the stratospheric soprano voice of Delaram Kamareh. This might be the perfect time to pull some honey out of your picnic basket — just be on the watch for roving bears who love the stuff!
