Studio BLR Presents: A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE THE HOUSE SHOW! featuring live bands! Tenessee Williams’ A STREETCAR NAMED DESIRE will be staged in a house! The house where Stanley and Stella live! They are a punk rock couple in a current New Orleans, playing host to Stella’s visiting sister Blanche, who has lost the family estate and is left penniless. She is like a fish out of water trying to adjust to the clashing lifestyles between her own, and her sister’s “brute” of a husband, and his rock band Poker Players”, all but one of of whom she considers to be beneath her, and that “one” she has decided she wants to marry. She cannot face the fact that her reality does not match the romantic image of herself that she so desperately clings to, but when the other characters discover and reveal the secrets of her shameful past, it is painfully obvious that she is not what she claims to be, and she can no longer remain in denial. The tension between Blanche and Stanley grows to a breaking point on the night Stella goes into labour and is away in hospital. It is impossible then for them to remain in the same house together, and Stella is forced to choose between her sister and her husband, the father of her brand new baby. A Streetcar Named Desire – the house show – will open on Sept. 19th and run every Thurs, Fri, Sat at 8pm, until Oct. 5th.
