The tragic yet inspiring events of China’s Tiananmen Square massacre come to the stage in Beijing Spring, a stirring new sung-through musical from the East West Players. Immortalized in the iconic “Tank Man” photograph, in which a lone demonstrator stood before advancing tanks, the protests by pro-democracy Chinese youth and their subsequent suppression by force captured the world’s attention. Co-written and directed by Ovation Award winner Tim Dang to commemorate the uprising’s 25th anniversary, Beijing Spring is a compelling reminder that the battle for freedom and human rights has yet to be won for many.
