This whimsical story of romance, mischief and magic follows four young lovers into the forest on a midsummer’s night as they become the unwitting victims in a lover’s quarrel between the king and queen of fairies. When a hapless troupe of local actors rehearsing a play in the forest also gets caught up in the madness, the comical snarl of spells seems impossible to sort out. But with fairies and sprites all around, it just takes a little more magic and, as Puck puts it, “all is mended.” Reality and illusion become wildly confused in this time-honored comedic charade that reveals the lengths people will go to for love.
