The Sound of Music: Rodgers & Hammerstein Favorite
Luther Burbank Middle School Auditorium (Burbank, CA)

The hills are alive with The Sound of Music! The final collaboration between Rodgers & Hammerstein won 10 Tony Awards in its original Broadway run, and inspired the five-time Academy Award-winning film starring Julie Andrews. Featuring timeless songs like “My Favorite Things,” “Edelweiss,” “Sixteen Going on Seventeen” and “Do-Re-Mi,” the story is based on the actual life of Maria von Trapp, who leaves an Austrian convent to serve as governess to the children of a widowed naval officer. Her growing rapport with the youngsters, coupled with her generosity of spirit, gradually captures the heart of the stern Captain, and they marry — only to learn the news that the Captain must go off to war.
