Caltech’s Beckman Mall (Pasadena, CA)
From harpsichords to iPads, toy pianos to grand pianos, MUSE/IQUE, Los Angeles’ cutting-edge orchestra, brings its “adventures in sound” approach to a concert paying tribute to the keyboard. Assembling a diverse set of master musicians, including Joanne Pearce Martin, Gavin Martin, Bryan Pezzone, Alan Steinberger and Ray Ushikubo, maestra Rachael Worby and the MUSE/IQUE orchestra bring together everything from Bach to Gershwin for a dynamic mashup that explores the history of the piano with adventurous juxtapositions. Los Angeles Philharmonic keyboardist Joanne Pearce Martin and her husband, Gavin Martin, have explored the piano-duet repertoire from the Hollywood Bowl to Disney Hall. An exuberant artist with a musicality well beyond his years, twelve-year-old Japanese-American pianist and violinist Ray Ushikubo has already played major venues, like Carnegie Hall, and appeared on NBC’s The Tonight Show with Jay Leno. From classical to experimental music, crossover pianist Bryan Pezzone has performed with premier symphony orchestras, toured widely with the jazz group Free Flight and is a sought-after studio musician for film and television soundtrack recording. Principal keyboardist for the Pasadena Symphony, Alan Steinberger has performed on such film soundtracks as Toy Story 3.
