The James Bridges Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
An all-star Welsh-American cast, including Matthew Rhys (The Americans) and Kate Burton (Scandal, Grey’s Anatomy), celebrates the centennial of Welsh poet Dylan Thomas’ birth with his classic 1953 comedy-drama Under Milk Wood. The perfect pick for an L.A. Theatre Works live performance — recorded for public broadcast without sets and costumes — this imaginative “play for voices” is a darkly funny look at the dreams and waking lives of the inhabitants of a Welsh fishing village called Llareggub (“bugger all” backwards), filled with unforgettable, quirky characters. This beloved work was also recently revived by the BBC, with Cardiff native Rhys playing a role as well. And though Kate Burton wasn’t born in Wales, her father, famed actor Richard Burton is one of the country’s most notable natives.
