New West Symphony: 20th Anniversary Season Opener

The powerfully expressive playing of acclaimed Venezuelan pianist Gabriela Montero is just part of the fascinatingly eclectic program in store at New West Symphony’s 20th Anniversary Season Opener. Ranging from playful to hauntingly beautiful, the program also finds the orchestra playing John Corigliano’s Promenade Overture, a tongue-in-cheek homage to Franz Joseph Haydn, as well as the searching, quivering strains of Heitor Villa-Lobos’ Bachianas Brasileiras No. 5 featuring soprano Indra Thomas. Finally, this thrillingly diverse concert reaches its rousing conclusion with Leonard Bernstein’s brash, pulsing “Symphonic Dances” from West Side Story. Arrive an hour early to enjoy a free pre-concert lecture.
