The El Rey Theatre (Los Angeles, CA)
Hailing from L.A.’s South Bay, Fortunate Youth combines rootsy vibes and unique bass lines with harmonies, guitar solos and heavy keys that can’t help but separate them from other mainstream reggae bands. Their straight-line reggae talents are built from delicate skank rhythms and the sharp voice of lead singer Dan Kelly, who with support from guitarist Ryan Gonzales and percussionist Travis Walpole make SoCal reggae unlike any other. With a high-energy approach and positive stage presence, the six-piece has opened for big-name bands such as Groundation, Toots & The Maytals, The Abyssinians, The Wailers, Katchafire and Tribal Seeds. Touring this fall with The Expanders and Thrive, Fortunate Youth will play favorites off of 2011’s Irie State of Mind.
