Bootleg Theater (Los Angeles, CA)

"O Réjane"

A vibrant mix of humor, music and stylized movement, this world-premiere play reflects the joie de vivre of its subject, Gabrielle Réjane, the Belle Epoque’s most famed French actress. Boasting a score by Réjane’s great-great-granddaughter Adrien Reju and Sébastien Miel of the French band La Maison Tellier, Ilana Turner’s O Réjane explores the star’s fascinating life as a wife, mother and fixture of the Paris stage, who started out as a gifted comic and grew into more emotional roles. In fact, her portrayal of Nora in A Doll’s House is said to be among Ibsen’s very favorites. She also broke boundaries, becoming a powerful theater impresario. This new production from Bootleg Theater is directed by Christopher Sivertsen, artistic director of the acclaimed Swedish physical theater company Awake Projects.
