Taiko is the art of traditional Japanese percussion. played by ensembles whose members gracefully combine movement and rhythm as they bang on various barrel-shaped drums. The Taiko Center of L.A. is the city’s premiere school for this ancient craft and is home to two ensembles that perform the Japanese art around the country. The Taiko Center of L.A., in collaboration with modern Japanese folk music group Minyo Station, will present a beautiful kaleidoscope of traditional Japanese song and dance with a contemporary twist. Minyo Station features Marisa Kosugi and Yu Ooka, two masters of the Japanese root music. Opening will be Team Taiko from the Wilmington Skills Center.
