The Bunny Gang may be a side project for Flogging Molly bassist Nathen Maxwell, but the band is a far cry from the Irish-inspired folk-punk Maxwell is known for. As singer and frontman of The Bunny Gang, Maxwell builds on the songwriting and bass chops he earned as part of Flogging Molly to create a unique blend of acoustic, folk and reggae that puts the slow, low tones up front. Joined by his father on drums, former Flogging Molly member Mike Peralta and guitarist Nat Lort-Nelson, Maxwell and The Bunny Gang have recorded two albums — 2009’s White Rabbit and this year’s Thrive — that skate from poetic melodies to Cumbia-inspired mellow jams that redefine what punk can be. Hoist The Colors, Yotam, Ben Horin and Donald Spence open.
