Warner Grand Theatre (San Pedro, CA)
With rare footage and appearances by Lou Reed, Dr. John, Ben E King, Joan Osborne, Dion and Leiber and Stoller, the acclaimed 2012 documentary A.K.A. Doc Pomus traces one man’s incredible path from unlikely origins to chart-topping success. A white Jewish Brooklynite born Jerome Felder, Doc Pomus began his career as a blues singer, despite having been confined to crutches and a wheelchair by a childhood bout with polio. He went on to become a highly successful songwriter of such hits as “Save the Last Dance for Me,” “A Teenager in Love,” “Viva Las Vegas” and “This Magic Moment.” He was even posthumously inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. This inspiring story is told through his great music, along with archival film and interviews with friends and collaborators. This special screening is part of the Reel Rock Series at the Warner Grand Theatre in San Pedro.
