This banter-fueled heist drama by Pulitzer Prize winner David Mamet tells the story of a Chicago junk shop owner who conspires with two shady friends to steal back the rare buffalo nickel he accidentally let slip away, along with its new owner’s entire coin collection. The pursuit of the trio’s twisted vision of the American dream is thwarted by their greed, and it becomes every man for himself when the con goes awry. Featuring Mamet’s emblematic writing style, American Buffalo pulls no punches with its terse and often vulgar dialogue, which Mamet himself referred to as a “profane poetry.” This play will be simultaneously performed in American Sign Language and spoken English.
