"From a Yardie to a Yankee"

Trying to make it in show business is hard enough, but imagine doing it after emigrating from Kingston, Jamaica to Chicago. This one-woman play makes a stop at L.A.’s Cupcake Theater before heading to off-Broadway. Sardia Robinson, who August Wilson referred to as “Jamaica” when she worked with him in Chicago at the Goodman, gives a powerhouse performance about being unstoppable in the face of relentless adversity. Now an accomplished actress, writer, comedian and television host whose acting credits include The Young & the Restless, Robinson recounts the story of her struggle-filled journey to achieving her dreams — a journey that included the death of her sister, a diagnosis of dyslexia and being a single mother. It’s a story meant to give others hope that obstacles are put in our way not to stop us, but to be moved.
