Aero Theatre (Santa Monica, CA)
Oscar-nominated writer-director John Boorman (Deliverance, Excalibur) is scheduled to drop in for a discussion and screening of Queen and Country, his long-awaited follow-up to Hope and Glory, as part of a American Cinematheque salute to the legendary British filmmaker, at Santa Monica’s Aero Theatre. An unlikely coming-of-age comedy about a spirited boy growing up amidst WWII’s London Blitz, the semi-autobiographical Hope and Glory won a Golden Globe and was nominated for five Oscars in 1988. The 2014 sequel finds the boy all grown up and ready to ship out to the Korean War. But instead, he and his pal Percy remain in England as army instructors, where they clash with their superior officer (Harry Potter’s David Thewlis).
